Down In The Darkness
Koontz, Dean
This is a tale about temptation. It again depicts a fairly normal and ordinary Joe and his family who buy a house which has a secret and they are thrust into an extraordinary situation.
It makes you think about what you would do in the same situation.
“Darkness dwells within even the best of us. In the worst of us, darkness not only dwells but reigns.”
That is the first line of the story. Koontz excels at seeing the horror in traits of people which get out of control or the very characteristics that seem good can create evil or vice versa.
We get to know this character and while the ending leaves us to make up our own mind, we feel we know how things will go and what he will do in the end.
The story is told in an intimate way between reader and the main character. He tells us his innermost thoughts, we are his confidante, a very effective writing tool which draws the reader in.
